Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet

Closing the Gap

The Prime Minister’s Department (PM&C) is working towards a digital first approach to communications across its various subject areas. Each year the Prime Minister delivers a report on the progress of the government against the Closing the Gap targets for Indigenous Australians.
ZOO was engaged by PM&C to communicate the Report digitally for the first time, in addition to developing a hard copy version.

The
Process

ZOO worked with key stakeholders within PM&C to understand the importance of the Report and what it means for Indigenous Australians. Using the Indigenous creative agency Gilimbaa for design
of the creative, ZOO went about developing a simple, yet effective, digital HTML solution that presented the Closing the Gap Report information in a new light for the first time.

The HTML microsite housed the full detail of the Report as well as providing snapshots, case studies and video content from the Prime Minister and Indigenous Australians. ZOO also created an overarching video animation that outlined the key components of the Report for those viewers who may not have wanted to read the entire report.

The
Effect

Closing the Gap was widely viewed as an engaging, visually appealing and simple to use solution for the Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet. It was, and remains, a site that enabled PM&C to demonstrate its digital first approach, whilst also allowing the organisation to distribute content promoting the Report through social media, and via other websites such as Indigenous.gov.au.
